Packing and Unpacking
If we are packing for you - no problems
If you are doing your own packing there are a few guidelines:

• Put heavy items in small boxes, light items in larger boxes
• Mark all boxes containing breakables – “FRAGILE” and put to one side
• Mark all boxes with room numbers or names
• Don’t overfill boxes so the lid won’t close tight
• Tape both the bottom and top of the boxes
• Use fish & chip shop paper for wrapping crockery, glass etc., your local chippy should xxsell you a ream and it’s cheap
• Don’t use newspaper you will never get the newsprint off
• Leave all clothing on hangers in the wardrobe. We supply special boxes on the day Please make sure all hangars are same way round as this makes transferring them onto rails much easier. All other small effects in wardrobes should be packed into
• Providing we can lift them, you can leave clothes in your chest of drawers

Neighbours
If you live in a street with limited parking tell your neighbours of your moving date and to be prepared to move their vehicles first thing – nicely of course

Utilities
You will need to give your utility companies a minimum of two days notice of your move and phone through meter readings on the day

Downsizing
Now is the time to get rid of all that clutter and make a few bob too. Car boot sales for your smaller items are fun for all the family and takings can add up. But remember – the object is to get rid so sell cheap and fast. For your larger or more valuable items place an ad in Friday-Ads magazine, available in most local shops and you can book on-line

Post Office
To be quite sure that your mail is redirected without delay, ask the General Post Office to do it for you. All you need to do is pop into any branch a week before the move and fill in a P944G form and you should have no problems.

Fish Tanks
Remove two thirds of the water and keep as much as is possible in a container. It would not be practical to take the fish tank on the truck so you need to arrange transport in a car. When you arrive at your new house the water can be put back

Win Popularity with your Removal Men -
Follow these tips and your removal guys will be putty in your hands:

• Keep out the kettle, mugs, tea and sugar
• If you have small children or animals arrange for them to be looked after. It can be stressful for animals especially cats (most vets offer a sedating service) and young children often get upset seeing their toys disappear in a big van
• Move all cars and caravans safely out of the way so as the removal trucks can get easy access
• Don’t water your plants the day of the move
• Empty & defrost the inside of the fridge or freezer

Ensure that all appliances are disconnected prior to the arrival of the movers
Dispose of all foods that could spill or might soil whilst in transit
Remove curtain poles and items fixed to the walls
Dismantle outside climbing frames/sheds/ play houses etc
Ensure that Garage items are packed safely.

If you own particularly expensive or fragile items tell the guys on arrival
keep everything you don’t want to be moved well out of the way and tell the guys. It’s too late if you require an item stacked at the front of the truck

If you arrange to get the keys to your new home in advance this is an immense help, but not always possible

Make a floor plan of your new house and give it to your team. On arrival walk round with them and show them where all the large pieces of furniture are going. Post-it note room numbers or names on all the room doors so as we can be sure the boxes get to the correct rooms.
